Blue Earth - Ferne More, age 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018 peacefully in her home with her loving family and husband by her side. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Blue Earth with Russ Steele officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28 at Patton Funeral Home 400 E. 14th St., Blue Earth.

Ferne Viola Risk was born Jan. 26, 1934 in Ledyard, Iowa to Orville and Esther (Richter) Risk. She was the only girl of three children. She attended school in Elmore and graduated with the class of 1952. Right after high school, she married the love of her life James More on Aug. 9, 1952. Together, they farmed south of Blue Earth and raised four children. In 1968, they moved into town where they still reside. After they both retired, they would travel to Lake Havasu City, Arizona to avoid the cold, harsh, Minnesota winters.

Aside from raising her children and helping on the farm, Ferne held many different jobs outside the home. She was employed at Telex, St. Luke's as the housekeeping supervisor, Green Giant in the summers, and Blue Earth Elementary School where she worked as a "lunch lady" until retiring in 1994. Her hobbies included quilting, cross stitching, sewing, playing the piano, socializing over coffee, and keeping up with her grand- children. What she will be most remembered for is her fantastic ability to cook and bake, her kringla and lefsa at Christmas, her famous and unduplicatable banana bread, and her Chex mix that you could never have just one handful. Her biggest joy, though, was cooking big meals for her family and having everyone around the dinner table to cherish old memories and make new ones.

Ferne is survived by her soul mate and husband of 66 years, James; three sons, Monte (Gayle), of Jackson, Mitchell (Sharon), of New Ulm, and Murri (Paula), of Albert Lea; her daughter, Monica (special friend Brad Zierke) More, of Blue Earth; her brother, Wayne (Joyce) Risk, of Elmore; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with two more bundles of joy on the way, as well as many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Darreld, and grandson Ryan Mensing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
