It was a fun and exciting season for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls volleyball team. But, all good things must come to an end.

The Bucs' season came to an end last Tuesday night when the maroon and gold lost to the St. Peter Saints in the Section 2AA South Sub-Section Tournament.

The South Sub-Section No. 3 seeded Buccaneers lost 3-0 to the No. 2 seeded Saints in a match that was played at Mankato East High School.

The Saints moved on to face the No. 1 seeded team from Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The loss brought the Buccaneer season to an end, with BEA sporting a 17-14 record.

The scores on Tuesday were 25-11, 25-21, 25-20, all in favor of St. Peter.

"I am very proud of these girls and their 'team' mentality and effort," says Buc coach Donna Nawrocki. "They continued to play hard up until the end. They played with great tenacity."

That tenacity was reflected in the stats.

Sofie Blair led the team in kills with 10, and also had two ace blocks. Lindsey Norman added seven kills along with five digs.

Maddie Oelke had six kills to go along with an ace block and 9 of 10 serving with four service points.

It was Samantha Nauman who was hot at the service line, with a perfect 14 of 14 tally serving, with an ace and eight service points. She also tallied six digs for the team.

Alissa Norman had 24 set assists and five digs, while Alyssa Ripley added an ace block.

This was the third time this season the Bucs and Saints faced each other. BEA won the first match 3-1 and that counted towards the Bucs becoming the Big South Conference champions.

The second time the Saints downed the Bucs 3-0. Last season the two also had met up in the Sub-Section semifinals, with the Saints prevailing by a score of 3-2.
